Whether you have a short haired or smooth coated dog there are many maintenance issues you need to be able to perform with your dog. For people with long haired dogs, there is a lot more to clean and de matt. For all dogs nails are an often scary issue for dogs especially if left to grow too long or if the quick has been cut. Long nails and matts in the pads of the paws can cause walking problems. Ears need to be examined, cleaned and cared for. Teeth need brushing. Regular gentle touching of the body and under the tail needs to be regularly examined for lumps and skin issues. Blood extraction and urine samples are a part of regular maintenance done by a veterinarian and these tests are are easier if you dog has been exposed to these actions beforehand. If all these handling exercises have been performed before it is necessary, it goes a long way to taking care of the dog in good times and in bad.
This is a, "How to " class where you can bring your dog. You and your dog will work on desensitizing, handling and if necessary use a second helper, for Puppies to prepare them for Groomer or Vet visits and older dogs who may have a negative association with those visits.
