Lucy Torrington

Lucia has worked with the DOGSmart Training team since December 2017. Growing up in Mexico, Lucia discovered her passion for the animal world by rescuing cats, eventually ending up with 6 amazing cats and an eventually a lovely white boxer Maxi who passed away in 2012.

Moving to Vancouver in 2011, Lucia started working at a doggy daycare where she started her learning journey regarding dog behaviour, especially in off-leash playgroups. Influencial books such as “On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals” by Turid Rugaas, and “The Other End Of The Leash” by Patricia B. McConnell inspired her to continue learning by following trainers and dog behaviourists such as Dr. Sophia Yin, Patricia McConnell (her favourite), while attending dog training webinars with Dr. Ian Dunbar and Robin Bennett.  Receiving some wise advice from an experienced co-worker to “never stop learning” Lucia earned a Dog Walker and First Aid Certificate from Langara College. Then in 2016, she opened her own business as a Pet Sitter and dog walker consolidating her 15 years’ experience of doing pet sitting for friends and family.

A year ago, Lucia adopted Zoe, a beautiful tuxedo cat who changed her life. She also enjoys nature, traveling, spending time with her daughters, and exploring this beautiful province by car.
