Advanced Beginner Programs - Beyond BasicsPre requisite: A DOGSmart Beginner Program or an approved equivalent beginner program.
Beyond Basics is our DOGSmart term for a wide variety of advanced training programs. Each program is unique and designed to offer you and your dog a chance to learn something new and fun. Included in some of these programs will be the use of clicker training. Please see below for a description of each program. All dogs must be 6 months and older. Programs are 6 weeks long, 1 hour per class. One week notice prior to start of class is required for cancellations or refunds on all DOGSmart programs. Please Note: There are no "make up" classes available for any Advanced Beginner Programs - Beyond Basics. This new sport is intended to promote positive relationships between dogs and owners based on trust and respect. Dog and handler use directional signs to run through a numbered course within an allotted time. It is not simple or easy, but challenges you and your dog in a partnership that improves attention and teamwork.

This is a great program that let's you build on your dog's basic skills through the addition of a variety of distractions and challenges. This program is for those who are looking to challenge themselves, and their dog, by taking that next step to the next level of their dog's training ability.
Canine Good Neighbour - Canadian Kennel Club Program for Pure Bred and Mixed Breed Dogs.DOGSmart Training Centre: 8206 Ontario Street, Vancouver Ph: 604 267-9500This program is to identify and reward responsible, caring owners and their canine partners throughout Canada. Canine Good Neighbours can be counted on to present good manners at home, in public places and in the presence of other dogs. The test is non-competitive and allows dog and handler to demonstrate confidence and control in 12 steps. This program does not require a DOGSmart Beginner Program but it is recommended.
Alice Fisher, CPDT-KA, Rita Britton, CPDT-KA, and Nicole LeBlanc, CPDT-KA, of DOGSmart Training are approved evaluators for the Canine Good Neighbour Exam, a Canadian Kennel Club certification.

This is a great program for any dog that has not taken classes in a while. Focus of this program is on three important skills:
Tricks and GamesBe the 'life of the party' and improve performance of all basic commands in a creative and rewarding way through playing games and learning tricks . Discover the secret to effective communication with your dog. And as a bonus, learn how to turn anything into a "dog magnet", including toys, mats, and even you. Train and PlayChoose the class that fits your dogs size.
In this program your dog will have the opportunity to learn and practice good play behaviours around other dogs and their owners. Play behaviours have important learning and health benefits that help dogs become well-adjusted members of both their canine and human families. Through play, your dog learns dog-to-dog social graces and is mentally and physically stimulated. Includes fun play time for dogs. Freestyle FunA Tricks and Games enhanced program that includes agility games, relay games, freestyle games, while improving your handling skills and having fun with your dog. Out and AboutGreat summer program for training outdoors with your dog. Dogs generally will behave in the house and close quarters. However, once out in the open air, where they usually find more interesting things to investigate, they can easily forget their names. Training your dog in the "real" world will help your dog focus, teach self control, build confidence, and increase the bond between you and your dog.
