K9 Nose Work®

What Is K9 Nose Work®? 

Started in California in the late 2000s by professional detection dog handlers, it is an activity for all dogs of every age, breed and ability as well as for handlers of any age or experience.  It is a fun, dog-driven sport that teams a dog and handler to search for odours. Students start by learning the foundation of the hunt. All dogs search individually. 

Donna Toews CPDT-KA CNWI is a certified K9 Nose Work® instructor since March 2012 with the National Association of Canine Scent Work LLB. She has been active in the sport since December 2009 and her team is the first team outside the USA to earn the ELT-CH title. She is a CKC and UKC judge.   

Please Note: Female dogs in heat season (estrus) are not permittedt to attend classes during the period that the female it is in heat.

There are 3 Levels for K9 Nose Work®

Level 1 Foundations

Foundations is the first series of classes to attend. Information will be sent to each registrant about what to bring to class and what to expect. 

Level 2 Odour and Elements

Students will be introduced to trial odours and will search in the four elements… containers, interiors, exteriors and vehicles.

Level 3 Advanced Searches Odours and Elements 

This class is for advanced students who will search all trial odours in the four elements…containers, interiors, exteriors and vehicles.

  • Important Note: One-week notice prior to the date of the first class is required for cancellations or refunds. Dates and times of classes are subject to change. Visit our website or give us a call for more information as well as to find out the dates and times classes are offered. Please equip your dog with a flat buckle collar, front clip harness, or head-halter only for all classes. All other types of collars including pinch, choke, martingale and shock collars, as well as retractable-leashes are not permitted
